Same Same but Different is an intergenerational look at beauty routines and the application of makeup among women. In a series of stills and video vignettes, I use neon makeup to highlight where we apply makeup daily or "put on our faces." Each image or video compares myself, my sister, and my mother and examines the gestural similarities and differences in the transformation that takes place when one applies makeup. Each video highlights where the performative becomes personal and how we as individuals come to terms with these encouraged routines.
